A long day

I was awake by 6:30, but the curling started at 7:00, so life is good. I cooked myself a chicken for Easter but it was kind of lonely sitting, eating by myself. Rodney popped in to check up on me. He was horrified that Rrain hasn’t been here since Christmas. I have accepted it☹️. But I got rid of another big chicken😊 by sending it home with him. He didn’t want eggs though☹️. I stocked up on everything when Jim was supposed to come home, so now I have stuff that needs to be used. Curling is at 7:00 tomorrow, but my physio is at 10. I have visions of leaving home at 9:45 with the score tied in the 10th☹️. I get a haircut on Tuesday (Hallelujah!) and then the news on Thursday, as well as an appointment with the gastroenterologist on Thursday afternoon. The golden years are so much fun🤪. But Friday is my goal!  A call with my sisters.  Love you♥️

Hanging in

No word from Concordia, so they're on my list to phone.  I look around and realize that for all our efforts, there's still a lot of stuff to get rid of.  That's just depressing!!😠  My "to call" list is getting longer, as the stairlift is making funny noises--enough to concern me. I called last week and was told that the installer would call me to arrange an appointment, but there's been nothing heard.  I paid a lot of money for an extended warrantee, money that I'll lose when we move, so I want to get a bit back somehow.  I'm thinking that the lift will have to come out to get any furniture out of the basement when the time comes. David thought he was finished with dental appointment but we decided to go with a different way of attaching his lower denture, and this will require a couple more appointments and a revision to the lower denture.  So that saga continues.  Finding adequate food for him is as issue.  We're eating a lot of meat slo...

Some days!

So, Thursday Sam texted me to say he could get me a case of eggs, at $3 per dozen and they had 20 pounds of garlic and chive cheese. I asked for 10 pounds of cheese but I should have taken all of it cause it is all gone. I waited all morning for Sam to text me ( I didn’t want to text him cause I wasn’t sure if they had to go to church all weekend. )Anyway, I gave up and went to the dump and then to the legion. I ordered a  zero beer and sat down to watch the curling.  Guess who texted me as soon as I sat down. So I went to the colony to get the eggs and cheese. I headed back to town and just past my road I realized I needed egg cartons!  So back home and off to the legion. I was packing egg cartons out of the back of my car.  Sometimes I wonder!! Anyway, all the cheese is gone (no, I didn’t set any) and the rest of the eggs are at home. I played the machines out of boredom and lost. You’d think that I was so obliging the Gods would be nice to me, but noooo! ...

Not much happening around here

Hello to you both, As I sit here at the computer with a cat snuggled on my lap, ( and a drink in my hand) I thought I would write a few words to offer some joy and wonder as we celebrate our Easter weekend. It was a bit of a coincidence today as I was going through boxes ( don't we all have damn boxes full of stuff to go through haha!) I stumbled upon a box with memorabilia from years past including items from my(our) Baptism and my Confirmation. And notes and gifts from Aunty Flo who was my (our) Sponsor. And other items from that era I received including my Bible from Mom and Dad, and my Birthday Book from Cathy. All had hand written notes in the front nicely so I could tell when and how and who. Boy, it brought back so many memories. Not nice today as it is really cool right now, so no outside work or greenhouse work. But it did not take long to fill my hours. I look at these boxes and have to decide is now the time to turf that which i do not want to keep or does it all get s...

Weekly retrospective

T his week I feel as though I'm running from mini-crisis to mini-crisis. No matter how I think my day is planned things move and change faster than I can react. More dental appointments.  Tuesday we were to the dentist for 8:45 am. Then home for an hour's sleep and off for an optometrist appointment at 12:10, for both of us, only to realize that there had been some confusion and we were almost an hour early. Dilation and scans and we were away just after 3:00.  We had planned to eat at the casino before the show we were to see.  Because of dilation we were travelling by cab, and had planned to take a cab to the casino so we could each have a drink during the show. So home we went from the clinic, had the cab wait while I went into the house to grab a different purse, and then off again to the casino.  Oh my, it felt so privileged to have a cab wait for me.   W hile we enjoyed the show, "The Music of Neil Diamond" after awhile the noise got to us and we de...

The impact weather has on us...

Hello to you this Thursday morning, Just enjoying my early morning coffee and bowl of porridge thinking about weather or rather trying NOT to think about weather. Things were so much better a few weeks ago when we had no snow and the bare ground was visible all around and ones mind thought of the coming summer and ability to sit out. I even put two chairs on our patio and had lunch outside one day sitting in the sun, and did an early morning walkabout one early morning, with my coffee in hand. Not so right now. It keeps snowing and blowing and I keep having to shovel again. And the plough just went by again after another night of snow and cold. Keeps me busy trying to monitor the temps in both greenhouses.  The heavy and frequent wind gusts all day and last evening prompted me to get the two propane heaters at the ready in case I had to do a quick switch if the hydro went out. Fortunately that did not happen....but I was ready 😉 I watched the first half of Canada's Ladies C...

A very nice surprise video call

Saturday morning greetings to you both, Let me say how opportune your call was yesterday for me. Feeling a bit "sorry for myself" at the time of the call, ponding "this and that" in my life as I was filling the washing machine and then the call came. I was fortunate that I had the android in my pocket, or I might have missed the ringing and the call. Although I expect you may have tried the land line (I hope) So we have managed to perfect our process meaning only that the three of us appeared on the screen and we could talk amongst ourselves freely. It can only get better...😁 So I wish you both a good weekend with fine weather although it appears that rain and snow are in the offing for my forecast here.  Take care and be good to yourself...XX   (ps wouldn't mind a bit of that Southern Comfort haha ☘️🥂)

A special day

Happy Birthday Pati. Hope you have a great day. And I know your real age.  You are 38 today😁.  Happy Happy Day💥💥🎂

Happy Day

Greetings on this Happy Birthday day for Pati. 😁 Do we assume that you also, are celebrating your 29th year? 🎵    Happy Birthday to you...... 🎶  Hope it will be a good day for you  🎂 💕💕

Family updates

Hello folks, Nice to read about the Social for Jeremy and Denise. Thanks for the update Pati. I can just imagine the noise level you mentioned. Perhaps a good time to "turn off the hearing aids" 😉And i was trying to picture the location of the venue so will have to take out my trusty old map of Winnipeg again. That's OK as I do like to look at it from time to time to refresh my recollection of things. When i read the Winnipeg Free Press I am often tempted to look at the map as so many mentioned events/locations are familiar still but also very vague. Plus, the expansion of Wpg and streets and bypasses etc over the years is huge. Well, what do I expect after having left the great place over 50 years ago haha 😒 The snow came again and then went again all in a days time. I laughed that the snow plough went down the street early Monday morning after it snowed all night - grinding and clunking on the cement trying to clean off a powdering of snow and by afternoon it was su...

The Social

Yes, the "game-playing" social was yesterday.  Loren had warned us that there was little parking, so we took a cab.  What a surprise when we pulled up at a samosa restaurant!  For some reason we had thought it was a private home, and I think there was a residence upstairs. It was on the riverbank, right across the Red River from our old home. Jeremy found us a table, a deck of cards, a crib board, and a couple of pieces of cake.  The hamburgers were being cooked on a b-b-q outside, with the men in Jeremy's family taking turns as "grill master". The noise volume inside was deafening, so much so that I didn't realize that the woman sitting behind me had a very tiny baby until we were leaving.  We stayed about an hour and a half, playing cribbage when neither of us could either shuffle or deal.  Amber, Darren and Samantha showed up shortly before we left, delayed by volleyball practice.  Jeremy and Denise did a "walk about" just after Amber and fam...

Status Report

It must be Friday as the laundry is getting done.  Time for a status report, but I'll have to check my schedule to remember what I did.  Do your lives sound like that? The first part of the week the whole city was waiting for snow to fall.  It finally started --hard and fast and wind powered--Wednesday afternoon--while I was in Lorette for the first time in three weeks.  Within about 45 minutes I started to get concerned and headed home.  The main difficulty was with snow blowing across the highway at a right angle constantly while driving from Lorette to Deacon's Corner.  Once I got on #1 and I was driving pretty well straight west, and had a tail wind.  The snow fell heavily until just before bed time.  We went to bed with drifts across our driveway.   David had a morning dentist appt, and we planned to try to get out giving ourselves lots of extra time, but--David was up at 3:30 and the driveway had been shoveled.  We did ...

Weather woes your way

Good day to you both, Sitting here early morning with coffee in hand and reading the WFP and seeing the posts about your weather and storms and snow and winds and closed highways and wondering what is in the forecast for me as your weather comes East. I have two greenhouses to keep warm and as i see the 14 day forecast it does not look promising related to keeping them warm for the seedlings already planted, and growing bigger each day. My mind is in motion thinking of a way i could  set up a second heater in the big greenhouse as it never heats up as well as the little greenhouse. With the current mild temps the snow here is melting rapidly which is a nice thing to see, except one knows that  could, and likely will, change quickly. Ah...lots to think about...🤔 The last while I have been able to watch some of the Curling that is being played in Regina right now....the Men's Brier. But to sit idle staring at the screen is never seen as productive so I pulled out my hexi...

We need to celebrate

Cathy is turning 29 again today.  I wish you every happiness today, Cathy.  And I wish you could celebrate your birthday like a 29 year old.  Certainly have more fun than someone turning 70.

Friends

It’s 9:15 pm and Rodney is here to dig me out. It’s his birthday and he is doing things for others!  Makes me feel kinda insignificant. He’s already been to Jean’s  house and I assume his own and his shop. I intend to force him to take money tonight (on top of the drink of rum he gets😜). Today my granddaughter’s mother died. Maddie has been part of my life since she was four and I love her so much. I hurt for her but there is nothing I can do to make her better. I did phone her but I just want to be there to hold her. And Rodney is still just cleaning my yard. He still hasn’t touched the road. I feel so helpless. What would I do without him?  Not a great day emotionally☹️. But life goes on. Tomorrow I turn 29. (Again🤪). The last few days have been good. Pati was here Friday and it felt so good to give her a real hug instead of a zen hug. I prepared for a major storm yesterday so I had wine and chips prepared. It sure pissed me off to wait until 3 pm to start them...

Off the roller coaster

At last a fairly slow week, so here's a quick catch-up.   It'll be nice to get a chance to catch up with the housework.  Only two out-of-house appointments this week.  Mind you one is with the dentist. David will have more teeth removed, so he'll be uncomfortable for a few days. . It was wonderful to see Cathy last Friday. A long and somewhat strange day, but worth every minute of travel just to have a few hours together.  And a bonus when Rrain joined us for lunch.  I got to see her new "Haunted House" tattoo with its accompanying graveyard.  And I even got to pet a cat!! But I barely remember Saturday, and was still a little out of it yesterday. Even today I was up at 8:00. but back down for a nap at 11:30. Over the weekend we tried to catch-up with laundry.  The washing machine has been bouncing around the basement for awhile now.  We have been trying to balance it, almost as often as between loads.  There have been many small ...
