most of the panicky time is over.
But that doesn't mean we get to relax much. Now that we know more about how we'll be living, we have time to look at smaller issues. Our home phones are not working well. One of 4 rings, the others don't. Our ultra casual clothes aren't up to snuff for evening dining. We really need a second tv. We brought far too many kitchen items with us. The toaster oven and cooking utensils are gone. My use of the second bathroom shower stall just isn't working and we've bought me a bath bench and shower curtain so I can try to use the main bath.
We ran errands yesterday, and ended up exhausted-really exhausted. I had Shaw coming this morning "between 8-10", so I set the alarm a little earlier, got up and went down to get a "take out" breakfast for both of us. We got the laundry going, and David started working on setting up the new phone system. About 9:00 the phone rings and a minute of panic, I realized that it was Shaw ringing to get in the building, but by the time I got to the phone in my bedroom he was gone. So here I sit, almost an hour later. It's 4 minutes to 10:00, and I have Shaw on speaker phone waiting to talk to a human being to arrange another call. Overall, I think my frustration tolerance is getting frayed.
Otherwise, things are going well. Tuesday evening we joined a small group to play Whist, and Wednesday evening, a different group to play Crib.
Halleluiah! It's now 10:10, and the man from Shaw is here. He says he called several times with no answer, but we only received the one call. David is supervising him in the bedroom, so I can keep going. David has been wearing the same hooded, zipper sweat jacket, every day, for about a year. He now has 4 new ones in 4 different colours. He has two more pair of good jeans coming by mail-order. I have 4 pair of good trousers, and have been able to get rid of my stained studio yoga pants and cheap, ($4 at Giant Tiger) skin-tight pull on pants, the ones that require a lo-o-ng Tee shirt to wear in public. All of the new pants need shortening, but I'm so busy running around town buying things that I haven't yet found time for that. The old clothes have already gone out in the garbage. We have garbage and recycling collection every day, by putting it out our door every morning, as a sign that we're awake and okay. My Monkeewrench book series has gone to the library, and the Rockton series will go as soon as David finishes reading them. He tells me that he can't put them down.
Later today, we're going to purge the fridge. David has already started it, but I don't think he knows how far I'm willing to go. Should be fun. (Snort!)
The Shaw man has finished and gone. Time to get on with the day, and deal with the smaller items we bought yesterday, such as a new shower curtain and hooks. And the laundry calls. Love you both.
