Self care
Both David and I have been getting nail care at a small shop in Transcona. The shop has been around for years and I remember receiving service from the mother years ago and the daughter and her husband more recently. But every January they go back to China to visit their family there. It appears that this year they didn't come back. No one answers the phone, and there is no other way to contact them. Other years a friend has usually taken over the shop while they were away. Then I started to think, and I'm wondering if this is their way of dealing with that $60,000 CERB Loan repayment. Go to China and never come back.
So we went to the shop in the little mall across the street. David got his nails cut and I got new Gel Nails. I love them! They weren't difficult to get used to, and still look good a few days later. Usually a manicure starts looking shabby on me by the next day. They weren't expensive, and at this point, I anticipate keeping them for as long as I can afford them.
Yesterday was the group in Lorette. A smaller group than usual and quiet enough that we could hear each other from one end of the table to the other. Everyone said what a good meeting it had been despite one member missing ( just got out of the hospital yesterday) She is normally one of the dominant members--not in a nasty way, but she laughs all the time and tells stupid jokes. While there, we usually sit in the same seat every time, and I sit opposite a lady called "Gilbert". She is very mildly demented and says that no-one can pronounce her real name so Gilbert it is. We tend to communicate non-verbally and then laugh quietly to ourselves. She's not as demented as people think she is following most conversations and showing an understanding of everything that's going on. I rather like her. Her sister is the lady I share a table with at every sale, and normally sits to my right. Just to confuse things, the sister's name is Laurette.
Lately David and I have been making stews and casseroles so he can eat more easily. It's also a way of using the meat in the freezer. but we're both gaining weight. Not good. We're also buying and eating muffins, me as a breakfast item and David for lunch and bedtime. Unfortunately neither of us wants to give them up. H'mm?
That's about it for now. Stay Safe! It's cold outside!
