The week that was

Actually most of it wasn't.  Early Wednesday morning we got the latest Covid shot, and I, although David as well to a lesser degree, spent the rest of the week "dragging butt".  However, I can say that every time I get one of those shots, the negative effects are a little bit less.  We ( The Royal "we") got the minimum amount of housework done.  We have agreed that the dishwasher can be put on any time we want, no longer any need to wait until it is absolutely full before using.  And anything possible goes in.  I was very pleased at how clean my roasting and broiling pan comes out.  Laundry is now regularly done over two days.  So much easier. So-o-o, I spent time reading, hand sewing, although my right hand is now painful, so the sewing is happening less and less often.  I also got into the studio and played with my India Ink.  Spent time comparing the deli paper I "acquired" from Tim Horton's against the deli paper I purch...

A Friday note ....

Hello to you both... hope you are doing OK on this Friday....always nice to hit a Friday for some reason....maybe a holdover from working days 😉 Shall I talk about the weather....anyone interested in weather these days?  I am pleased to have mild days for some time to come...even nicer NOT to have the freezing rain that was forecast for last night. Still and all, it is rough walking with soft snow and the ploughs doing several runs each day - which has to be shoveled from the end of the driveway. The little greenhouse was heated up this week and although no work has been done yet - it is ready for planting seeds with the soil and pots and water containers and seed packages and little wooden sticks to go in each pot marked with the name of the seeds....just waiting for "someone" to start to work in earnest.  The heater is keeping the inside at around 62-70 F in the day because the day temps outside are around 0. The nights are mild right now as well, so night temps insi...

My diet exploded (the long version of the story)

Friday, Gail, her friend Laurie, and I had planned a play day making Friendship Flags, previously known as Personal Prayer Flags.  Gail, the militant atheist, rejected the original name, but thought that they might be marketable under the new name, as something teenagers buy to give to friends. Within the past couple of weeks, Gail has come into an inheritance, one she has been waiting for in order to fix her basement that has been compromised by her neighbour's tree roots.  She decided that she wanted to celebrate in some way, perhaps stopping at Baked Expectations on the way over, and bringing us goodies to have during our Play Day.  Then Laurie couldn't come.  I suggested that maybe it would be a more of a celebration if Gail and I could meet at the restaurant beforehand.  Finally, Gail picked me up an hour earlier than originally planned and off we went, having promised David that we would bring him home his favourite cheesecake. Not being shy I added...

Another day..

Hello again, This was my morning. I always wanted to make some quiche tarts. I have never made quiche before in my life. I have tried and thoroughly enjoyed Cathy's pie quiche. but not my own. Always a little afraid to ruin the recipe and all those ingredients. Here it is.......there was leftover egg mixture so I just put that in a casserole and baked. The recipe made 24 muffin tin shaped quiches.

Taking a quick break and a coffee

Good morning, Not planned but nevertheless my chore for today is to clean up around the front door and shelf unit, stand and top of piano etc. When i went to take Bailey out at midnight last night i was confronted with the floor coat hanger fallen across the entrance way and on top of the bench where i sit to put my boots on ... and all the "stuff" stored on top of the shelf unit spread all over. Yes, I blamed the cats for their night adventures. But in a way it could have been destiny as I have been haunted with needing to do this job for quite awhile. 😒 So I forge ahead.  It is actually too cold to go out still except to take the dogs just close by to do their thing. I wonder if I have shared my concern about the  light at the corner of the our street and the main road. For almost a year or half it has been out - the Village needed two outages reported in order to call in the Electric firm to fix. I finally found another light out up the street so was confident to co...

Changes

Today Lucky went to a foster home. I am going to miss him a lot, but I think it was best for both of us. Hopefully he will find a home where he can be happy again. I did discover that without him here I am going to have to get some sort of doorbell outside. He would bark whenever someone came in, but this afternoon Al was in the kitchen before I knew he was here, and I had locked all the doors early when I thought I heard a noise and Rodney was outside!  They are going to try to get a car to me tomorrow or Wednesday. The neighbours have helped me so much but I hate depending on them. They even offered to take me to the legion on Wednesday so I could socialize (it’s been 2 weeks!). It is miserable out!  The wind has been howling and I feel the house shaking.  I will be so glad when the temperature starts to warm up.  At least we don’t have the snow that Beth is getting. That would be crazy. There is enough snow blowing around as it is!  Tomorrow I will have...

Here it is.. my puzzle

Hello to you both, Over the last couple days I have had much fun playing with my wooden pieced picture puzzle. These puzzles are made of small irregular pieces many of which are in the shapes of varied and interesting animals. Makes for a big challenge...but, it is a wonderful way to sit and amuse oneself in total pleasure and a sense of accomplishment as well. If you are interested in seeing more, log onto Unidragon.com  Hope you enjoy  XX Shining Fish    The size is 15.7 X 12.2 inches and contains 331 pieces. Take care XX

Hibernation

Brrrrrrr!  The wind chill is scary. I tried to shovel the patio but the drifts were over two feet tall and a lot wider. So I re-read the snow blower instructions and bundled up to attack.  I fought through the drifts towards the garage and the wind hit me. The snow was whipping around and it had started to snow again. I said (expletive deleted) this and went back inside.  My car has one totally flat tire and I couldn’t get the compressor to blow it up yesterday so I quit trying. I have enough food to last a long time (you wouldn’t believe how much home made soup I have in the freezer!). And the animals are good for a while. (I’m sure they wouldn’t object if I had to feed them people food). Lucky is not getting a walk today. We went as little ways yesterday and he changed his mind and came home. He has been out to pee twice and came right back to the door. Smart dog!  But he is very sad and bored☹️.  I agree with the bored part. You can only putter so much...

Snow here too

We had about 1 1/2-2 inches over night, and now it's starting again, as predicted.  I don't want to be driving in this.  There is a meeting of my Fibre Art Divas this afternoon that I had said I would attend.  I won't be going, although socialization outside the house is a primary goal right now. We have been very busy re-filling the freezer that I had worked so hard to empty last month.  But there have been several good buys in meat lately that couldn't be ignored.  Power cooking just takes a lot of energy--more than either of us has right now.  David is just coming back from a nasty chest cold, and I'm keeping busy carrying on.  But the work is getting done one way or another. Funny you should have mentioned zig-saw puzzles Beth.  I've been buying smaller ones at Giant Tiger for $7.00,with 300-350 pieces, sometimes two puzzles in one box.  There are times that I just need that sort of focused but somewhat mindless distraction. I...

Recovering

Hello to you both,   And the storm came, and the storm has departed.....for the most part anyway. We had everything...wind, snow, ice pellets, rain and a mixture of all the afore mentioned. And so the cleanup began very early for me and would you believe with the exception of a short break to take Bailey for a walk, I have been outside working until now. I now have a butter tart and a freshly brewed coffee from my new (bought Monday at Canadian Tire)  Keurig machine sitting before me and a Salmon Ball Casserole in the oven cooking for my meal today. I plan to sit at the dining room table and work on a new jig saw puzzle I started yesterday. No plans to venture out for anything.... I have food, drink, goodies, puzzle, book, lottery ticket for tonight,  and plan to stay in for next day or two. Wish me lots of fun and rest. 😉 Hope all is well with everyone... take care if you go out on the roads and be safe... XX 💕

I appear to be missing around here

But I'm still hanging around and hiding in corners.  The past week has been a mixed blessing.  We enjoyed our anniversary.  There was a very nice meal at the local Mongolian B-B-Q, followed by our usual visit to the casino.  New Year's Eve was quite quiet and we both were in bed before mid-night.  David's birthday we switched things around going to the casino in the afternoon and playing before dinner--soup and half a sandwich each. Boy--when the Findlays celebrate they go all out. Our life appears to be settling into a routine of living quietly at home with one or two trips to the grocery store a week.  Then we add the occasional trip to the doctor.   Yes, I did do some baking.  I even managed to find and buy a 4 kilo bag of sugar for my baking.  Then David decided that the home made muffins weren't for him,  I didn't even get to open the sugar! As mentioned in Beth's post, the Christmas goodies all showed up on the scale. Y...

Ahhhh. muffins are all gone....

Greeting from a snow covered terrain. Finally !!  Still not much snow to shovel but the ground is covered and the Lake is starting to freeze over - at least it is snow covered but certainly not safe to traverse. Late start to the Winter activities but perhaps, the season can be saved if the forecast is right. We were up to North Bay yesterday and the Ski Hill is busy with all their snow making machine going full tilt.  Inside I have been forging ahead with tidy up here, and tidy up there but no discernable difference from my perspective. 😒My dresser drawers are as neat and tidy as ever - how long do you want to bet that lasts ? And I just got off my hands and knees from washing the kitchen floor - actually taking a break now while it dries by writing a few words your way. I am thinking seriously of getting one of those Swiffer (? name) that Cathy has mentioned, and I think Pati you use - may ease the aches and pains of getting down, and worse getting up for me. Watchin...

Wish you were here....

... at least together to enjoy a cup of tea and some hot out of the oven banana / chocolate chip muffins. Now Pati, it is you who has got me into the thrill and excitement of baking muffins again, and in speaking with Cathy, I think she, too, has some renewed interest. So here goes...... the kettle is on, the muffins are ready, and the table is awaiting 😉💕  Any ideas for our next creation? Happy, happy to you both  XX 🥰
