Another day.. another warning

Hello, hello...👪 Yes, the weather is top of mind these days with so many warnings being announced and yet another right now for southern Ontario r/t tornado warning, but I do not think directly in our area. Only severe thunderstorm activity.... bad enough !  The skies are still burdened with the smoke from the wild fires in Northern Ontario and Quebec so we see only hazy days recently.  So on the eve of Canada Day I send my best wishes and thoughts to you both. We bought two new big Canada flags at Dollarama this morning to replace the two I have been using for years and showing those years of wear badly. They will be put ceremoniously into the garbage. The new ones are now flying from the fence facing onto the road so that passerbys can see them. The wind is blowing briskly right now so the flags are also blowing in the breeze nicely. There is a Market down at the Lake Park right now as well and I hear the fire trucks honking and blowing their horns so I imagine the k...

I have internet

And the poor tech. He was supposed to be here between 8 and 12. He got her after 6!  I feel so bad for him. He says he drove over 1000 km today, and he was here for almost two hours. He had to replace the receiver on the roof and the cables into the house and some kind of receiver in the house. He is going back to a hotel room in Brandon since he lives in Winnipeg!!  So I have been sitting outside reading since I got back from the doctors. (He sent in the forms and now I wait for a date. The surgeon wants it soon). I hope that by doing nothing today (except for a walk around the yard with Lucky) that I may hurt less tomorrow. We will see. Love you guys♥️♥️♥️

Fruitful labour

Out in the sun again, yesterday, but only to move back and forth from the house to the garage.  Set up to do some dyeing.  This meant multiple trips from house to garage, assembling all of my equipment and supplies.  David helped me (or rather I helped David) set up the big circular table to work on.  By the time that was done, I was pooped out.  Excitement gave me strength to start work, and I think I finished at least eight large pieces of fabric to use as backgrounds. Then I had to clean up.  I did this slowly and carefully, with lots of rests and sit-downs.  That took double the time as setting up did, and David's help, yet again made a lot of difference. Then I crawled into bed and slept like a log for almost 2 hours. By the time I got up, it was time to deal with the hash.  Your recipe was dead on, Cathy, and I thank you for it, but with no mushroom soup or mushrooms, we had to get creative.  I used mushroom gravy mix, and it loo...

Outside work on hold for today...

The sun is a hazy orange orb in the sky obscured in a cloth of smokey skies. The air is pungent and the throat is achy and the eyes are sore  and watering. That was our early morning walk to the South River park with the dogs - a shortened walk for sure, as we are cloaked in this smokey and spooky haze. Never been this bad. I have lots to do inside so all shall be good for now. There is the annual Book sale planned for August and towards that end, the organizers of the event ( local United Church and local Library)  have called for used books. Good...a chance to purge some books and feel that they will go to a good cause.I have already taken one a box to the drop off spot and plan to gather and box up more. Of course that takes a while because I have to go through them all and remember reading them and decide if i could live without them. I have my individual favourites and my series of favourites which I shall hold onto for now. Tomorrow I have a Physio appt and expect...

Borrowing WiFi

Here I sit at the legion using their free wifi. By hamburger hash do you mean the one with hamburger, chopped onions, mushroom soup, mushrooms and peas?  Brown the hamburger and the onions and add the rest and let it simmer. It’s the only one I remember. I’ve done more work in the last few days than I have in ages. The dog is clean, the carpet is clean, the garden is weeded and tilled, the dog has been walked and I have supper planned for tonight and tomorrow. Hamburgers tonight, but beer can chicken tomorrow with potato salad and Caesar salad. I wonder what is wrong with me?  Of course my body is paying for it and I am devouring Tylenol and going to bed early.  Something got hungry in my yard so we went and bought 18 new petunias. That’s more than we lost but I can fill in more empty spots now. Summer is short so you want some colour. Now I have to get some dirt and plant them. I can do that sitting down. Take care and enjoy summer♥️♥️

I have a problem

I can't quite remember how to make hamburger hash.  My freezer is getting bare and I have a fair bit of regular hamburger that needs using.  I thought what better to make on a Saturday night than hash.  Unfortunately I haven't made it in over 20 years-since the kids left home and we moved here.  Add the complication of David not wanting any mushrooms, and those were the only thing I  did remember using. Help, Please!

Wanted: some rain please

Good morning to all,  And maybe my wish will come true and there is rain in the forecast. In meantime there is the hose and the person holding said hose watering the garden every day just to keep the plants happy. But everything is growing wonderfully well surprisingly. It is fun to do a walk about early and see how the plants and flowers have popped up and spread nicely. I can hardly wait to see the nasturtiums grow bigger and flower. The one flower not coming along well are the peonies which have buds but are really slow to open up. I see other peonies in peoples gardens and they are in full bloom. Patience I guess.  We continue to laugh a bit with our Village as there are so many little food places opening up. Hamburgers, fries, pizzas, whatever you want...can be had. Not only here but in the next Village of South River. You can even have a wood fire pizza cooked before your very eyes if you want. And sit and sip on a brew while you wait. The Distillery in Sundridge ...

The energy-sucking garage sale panic is over.

We both made it through the day without faltering, very much looking forward to a good nap once things were over.  But then were so high couldn't sleep.  Both Loren and Amber were there to help us, with Amber stopping at Tim's for breakfast on her way.   I was up and immediately dressed at 7:00 (Omg!  It even hurts to be able to say that)  Then off in the car to set up 5 signs.  Of course, each stop one has to find a place to park, get out of the car, place the sign, and reverse the process.  That finished, I parked in the mall across the way, pulled my walker out of the car, and trudged off home.  I was so glad to have the walker during the day, mainly because the float was hidden in the small zipper compartment in the walker and I sat on it most of the day.  We moved the patio table and umbrella to the front yard.  Amber and I spent most of the day there, while Loren and Dave spent their time in the garage, until later in t...

All is quiet this Sunday morning....

Thought we would give a brief acknowledgement to all our Fathers on this special day just for them. Best wishes to you all...and may you have good day. Looking at the forecast for here, all I see is "sunny...sunny...sunny" for the next week. I translate that into meaning "water..water..water" the plants and garden for the next week. haha! I started that routine last evening and gave everything a real good soak but as the sun is shining brightly overhead right now, I know they will be thanking me again this evening as I do it all over again. Now since all the tomatoes have been planted (yeah!!) I hope to do more cleanup and tidy up outside to make it a bit presentable. That includes storing all the little pots that were used for planting into boxes and into the big greenhouse for the winter.  But also i like to make little sitting areas around the garden and yard where one could rest and think for a few minutes, while outside working. This is the part that I like t...

Sometimes....

. .... some days one experiences the rare and strange sense of satisfaction or sense of contentment. Today was one of those days for me. I just took the dogs for their night walk to the park around the corner and as I walked I felt a real sense of peace and realized it was satisfying and that I was content. I worked very hard today in the garden planting and cleaning and fussing about and making some real progress. I was pleased with my work and could see the end to the planting process very soon. I think Harry said he counted over 500 tomatoes already planted in the garden or in pots all around the yard. So I share this with you both, hoping that you, also, can feel the same feeling...that "all is well"..... 😂❤❤. So before the day ends join me in a song that you both know:           Day is done, gone the sun,           Come the moon and the stars in the sky,           All is well, safely rest,   ...

Food for thought

Saw the neurologist this week for a re-assessment of my mental status following the concussion I had in January.  I feel that my short term memory has become very poor, and David says that my personality has changed.  The doctor disagreed Saying that the test show no deterioration, and that my metal status is average for my age. He had a short, private chat with David, and then a longer chat with both of us--a gentle non-threatening chat, verbally casting no blame.  He explained that he felt that the changes are the result of an interference with my mental retrieval system, probably caused by stress, and that some of that stress  is self-induced.  He suggested the usual life-style precautions--eat healthy foods, get lots of exercise, get lots of sleep, and don't use a lot of sleep aids. The last few days have involved a lot of navel gazing, but also some action.  Thursday I tackled all of the three studio tasks work that have been plaguing my mind...

Hang in there folks...

Just a wee note of encouragement for us all as we live (try to survive) through these hot and smokey days. I loved the Editorial Cartoon this morning in the WFP. ...perfect to capture what the current situation is across all of Canada. Is this what we must come to accept as the new norm?  Take care and stay safe and be kind to yourself. I was yesterday...i went to the LCBO and bought myself a bottle of White Wine. And I sipped on a goblet of the good stuff while sitting inside, and enjoyed the pleasure immensely.   Here's to us all......XX

Life

Sounds like life is catching up with everyone these days.  The doctor prescribed tramadol for pain but I could not handle the side effects. The pharmacist suggested I reduce the dosage and take extra strength Tylenol in its place. I phoned and left a message for the doctor telling him what I had done. Kellie and Markus are coming over today to do some yard work for us. Awfully hot, but they suggested it. Jim is going to ask them to finish mowing the lawn. I did 1/2 of it last week but was too uncoordinated to continue. I figured it was safer to stop. Even the dog is content on the basement floor. I try to do a little bit and then sit for a few minutes. At least I get something done that way. (Boy! I’m really whining today!). Unfortunately I am not doing anything else. We went to the legion Saturday, but only stayed about 1 1/2 hours. Jim order Chinese for supper and we are still eating it today!  He says he only has some vegetables and rice left so it is almost gone. Th...

Chaos?

Yesterday, we had a man come to service the air conditioner, first thing in the morning, which meant getting up with the birds.  Not my favourite way to spend the morning.  We found out that it was likely installed around 1985.  If it breaks down, it must be replaced as it contains Freon--now an illegal product.  It appears to be working fine, and he recommended that we just keep it going until it dies.  Then, shortly after he left, people came to clean the rugs and both of our living room chairs. Then we went out to run a few errands, while the carpet was wet.  We b ought a new set of bamboo sheets for the twin bed, but also picked up some spare pillow cases.  OMG!  They are HUGE!  Then to  Walmart to pick up pills,  Then a car wash,  followed by a visit to the credit union to sort out a couple of bills,  and finally off to find some sort of casual footwear for David.  He's been wearing slippers from Walmart b...

Friday and still dodging the heat, are we?

The skies here are overcast and so I am wondering if the forecast thunder storm is really coming our way. Otherwise we are just as hot, hot, hot as you folks. However, it is outside work that still captures my attention. I took our vehicle to the garage this morning for change of tires and oil change ( I know its a little late for tires but so be it....) and I was given a loaner - an Impala to drive home. Sometimes I am not offered this option depending on availability and so have to stay there and read. In the past it was my habit to walk back home down the highway ...a fair bit actually. But I no longer can manage that trek.  So I am here now at home doing the chores and appreciate not having to perhaps "waste a few hours" at the dealership, although sometimes I do appreciate that time alone. Too much on the plate these days to sit and read and idling dream into space haha! A few more chores on my way home again once I get our vehicle such as going to the Library to pick ...
