Touring through East Winnipeg
Yesterday my family and I were given a tour through Concordia Village Assisted Living facility. This is the one that I am somewhat familiar with as my friend Shirley lived there for several years. I had also rented a room there for several meetings that I had to arrange during a weekend conference of the Embroiderers' Guild of Canada. There are three different building associated with the place and we toured through the second one, which is a bit pricier than the first but has more amenities such as two bedrooms and two bathrooms one of which has a normal tub and the other a walk-in shower. As well each suite has in-suite laundry. That sold me. Having finished the tour neither of the kids could find any fault and both said so as we were leaving. Tuesday we have another tour scheduled at a different facility. It's much closer to our previous house so not unfamiliar territory for us. David and I took a drive by there just to make sure we knew where we were going. From the outside it looks very much like the first one, except there are four stories instead of three, and little or no grass anywhere around it. The first was in a very park-like setting with a walking trail around the facility. This second one has parking lot around the facility and is close to a main road. But it is also a much newer building and may just appeal to us.
Our intent is to get on the waiting list now, even if the waiting list is between 18 months and three years. My understanding is that we can say "no, not yet" and remain on the list.
Loren came over to help me with my cell phone prior to our tour, and took a look around the house. He pointed out a couple of issues that might result in some expensive repairs. This worries me, but we just have to "bite the bullet" and look into it and get quotes. There's no sense in worrying too much if we don't know what we're actually facing.
After our visit yesterday, David and I went to Starbucks, taking our books along. Well, it was busy and noisy and not at all relaxing. So a quick trip to the grocery store for things needed for supper, and off home. Then I had to make the supper I had scheduled. Total chaos, but an hour later, with David's help, things were done, the kitchen relatively clean, and me totally exhausted. So a nap, and up just in time for Gail's phone call. Vegged in front of the tv for most of the evening, and early to bed.
Today, I hope to spend time with the camera, in the studio, as I've been promising for quite awhile. This could take most of a day. But, it's now noon and I haven't finished my tea, and am still in my nightclothes. As well, an internet event in which I participate every year, starts tomorrow and is on for about 15 days. It's called "Sketchbook Revival" and is a series of workshops geared very much for all levels of artist, beginner to skilled. I love this, but there are two preliminary workshops that have been available for some time, and I just haven't got to them with all that's going on. I can then pick and choose which of the other workshops to take. Some of the things I learn have stayed with me, and some were a joke, but they are free, and I have most of the supplies.
So that's me for this weekend. Best get dressed and get to work. I hope David will take on cooking supper tonight.
