Burrrrr..cold

Hello Friday...and a cold one at that. Last two nights there was a  "frost warning " so, of course, had to respond according and protect all the plants. So most were put back into the two greenhouses and the white shed under cover and the others left outside were covered with blankets. Today should be able to bring them all out again and hang the baskets up and generally start all over again. The new format for The Weather Network is still difficult to navigate but sort of getting used to it now. A bit cautious still about an early June freeze warning so will watch that closely. Otherwise all the plants are growing well and should have some nice tomatoes this year. And the 15 zucchini plants should yield a few zucchini to process. Watch out for the "the bus" coming your way and delivering some nice zucchinis ðŸĪŠ Eating some porridge as I write this early - it felt like a porridge morning for me as I sip a hot cup of coffee and shiver here at the computer. Yesterday...

And so it ends

I am so happy you joined me yesterday. I was emotionally exhausted but pleased. I was so tired I slept until 7:30 this morning. And while I was sound asleep Maddie and Win packed up and left early (very early) this morning. I was so sure I would hear them when they left!  We had a tree come down in the storm on Friday so Tim and Rodney are going to cut it up today. Most of Friday’s snow is gone now but it was deep, wet and very heavy. Right now it looks like I only lost 2 bedding plants. The blankets covering them were under about 4 inches of wet snow and ice. Tim and I have been sitting out on the patio this morning. What a change in weather from the last couple of days. Cheryl has crawled out of bed so I guess our day is starting. I love you guys♥️

Ahh yes, the weekend

It occurs here as well, with the only thing to tell that it's happening is the laundry being done on Friday.  This is not a complaint!  The only event during the past week was my ladies group in Landmark on Tuesday.  A longer drive than the previous group, but a much more gentle, pleasant group.  I recently heard a rumour that several other ladies have left the previous group, so maybe it wasn't only me who grew upset and offended at the racism and conspiracy theories that took over the group.  How unfortunate!  I had been a part of the previous group for almost 9 years.  So this week my effort at finding a balance between housework and studio time consumed most of my time. Other than the laundry, my task for today is to "polish my sink". That job has became a bit of a joke around here.  A friend, known as a potential candidate for "Hoarders", found a support group where she was told that the first step was to "polish her sink".  ...

Heading into another weekend

Good Friday 😍 The weather here has been wonderful save for that terrible storm we had the other day that initiated tornado warnings and some possible touchdowns not confirmed yet. The wind has continued though over past day or two which is dropping several dead branches from trees in our yard. So today i should walk about and gather them up for the pile to go out on Monday for the village pickup of brown leaf bags and brush. And the lawn needs to be cut. Thank goodness I took the lawn mower two weeks ago to a fellow to clean and condition it. It has not started for me for a few years very well and I knew it needed some work. Hope this second cutting with it since being fixed will be easy again. It is the pulling of the cord to get it going that bothers me. Where is all my strength when I need it. 😒 Much planting in the garden over past week as the temperatures have allowed us to get the plants out of the greenhouses and into pots or the garden proper. Yesterday I also planted b...

Rainy, rainy, wet day....

...so what should one do to keep amused?  Why not bake something delicious and eat it ðŸĪŠ Out came the recipe box to find a delight that has not been made for sometime and that sounds just right for the day.  1) Rhubarb, of course. First spring rhubarb picked from the garden. And for a different taste...Dump Cake. Not tasted yet, but it sure looks good and smells even better. 2) Going through the Cookies section in the recipe box, came across a cookie recipe written in Mom's handwriting called Cornflake Cookies.  Vague remembrance of this cookie when young but certainly not made for decades in this home. Some chocolate chips were added that were not part of the original recipe ( to satisfy the need for chocolate of course.) Crispy in texture ( from the 4 cups of corn flakes asked for in recipe) but very, very tasty indeed.   Now that this task has been accomplished - on to the next - cleaning bird cages and then if time...some sewing. Take care ...Thinking...

Just a little surprise

We're cleaning out drawers that probably haven't been opened in 20 years and found this.  I can send you copies if you want either on paper or electronically.  Or maybe someone wants the original picture? There is no date but I'm guessing I was about 18 months or maybe a little less.

New Book

PS Just picked up the new Kelly Armstrong Book at the Library - #3 Book  Disturbing the Dead in the Rip Through Time series.  Life is good ðŸĨ°

Good Friday to you both...(again... haha)

Hello, Friday seems to come around every week...how come? The weather forecast here appears to be glorious for at least the next two weeks - with a flash of some rain and maybe a thunderstorm thrown in to make it exciting.  I always look at the night temperatures of course, thinking of the plants outside and possibly the need to cover if frost might be imminent. 😒 Speaking of plants I took a picture of some of the trilliums growing in our yard. They are at their best right now.  And a few tulips in the garden. The Spring flowers are fewer this year than in previous years, We had only one daffodil.  Greetings on this May 24 Long Weekend...even if it is only May 17. Funny how this "used to be exciting" weekend just comes and goes for me now without much fanfare. I am sure there will be someone lighting fireworks in the neighbourhood so I should hear some bangs bangs. The Village usually has fireworks on Canada Day. Ay present there is no fire ban around here but I f...

Is it our day today?

Well, let us make it so then.....to Pa, Be and Cat (our PaBeCat Sisters) Happy Mother's Day. Enjoy ðŸĨ°ðŸ’•ðŸŦ–

Shower and Reactions

Good day,  I was happy to read about your attendance at the Shower. And glad to hear that you went to start with, and that you enjoyed the event. And not to dwell on your comments about reactions Pati, but I am well aware of how I have the tendency to create my own stress. I, too, tend to build up my worry and woes to point of physically feeling out of control. I have to watch myself carefully. Not that I go out much, but even with every day occurrences things can quickly get out of proportion. My mantra for this year is upper most in my mind at all times ( Lighten up, just enjoy life, smile more, laugh more, and don't get so worked up about things) And please, please, I keep telling myself, acknowledge what is going on in your head, listen to yourself, and gain control. Just reading your comments actually helped me to realize " all shall be well"...😉 It appears to be an inside day today - maybe get another block sewn? Raining and raining ......I am about to go check ...

Reactions to stress

Yes, there was a Bridal Shower.  I was in several pictures and was promised some sent to me electronically.  That I should take my camera never crossed my mind.  D ' uh!  The house was quite close and I had no trouble finding it and had been promised a parking spot on  the driveway. There were 20-25 ladies there along with Jeremy. When I got there they were all gathered around a large kitchen island that divided a large square space diagonally with kitchen on one side and living room on the other. The entrance was in one of the other two corners, and in the other corner was a kitchen-size table covered with goodies. There were veggies and dips, small bread buns, sliced meat fruit dishes, Nacho and other types of chips all with sauces, and two large three tier daintie displays.  There were several types of "punches", both alcohol and non-alcohol. The place was very crowded but there were chairs all around the edges in every nook and cranny. There was ...

Helping hands

Kris came for the weekend and Kik came Saturday to help me deal with”stuff”. I was overwhelmed, but they had no trouble dealing with it. No emotional attachment. There was no stopping Kris. By the time he left I was exhausted and he did all the work!  I now have two usable spare bedrooms for when Tim, Cheryl, Maddie and Win come for Jim’s Celebration of Life. And Jim’s goddaughter will be here with her family. Husband and son, Jaxon James, born on May 4th. Jim lived long enough to know that Kellie was pregnant. He was so happy for them. Rodney stopped in today and was taking pictures of  “crap” (in my opinion) and sending them to someone interested in buying them. People have weird tastes!  This week is busy, even if tomorrow only involves going to the legion. We’re ripping tickets to sell on Friday at Chase the Ace. It should be over $16,000!  I have the doctor on Wednesday, news and concert on Thursday and volunteering for the Legion Ladies, our call and mea...

Family Times- Visits and Bridal Showers

Hello to you both, Obviously a Family weekend with Kris and Keri visiting Cathy to help with cleanup, and also the Shower for Pati to attend.   Thinking to day about that Shower for Denise, and hoping that your attendance Pati, will also bring greetings from Auntie Beth ( who I know no one knows really - so sad 😒) Your gift will be very welcomed Pati as is all your hand made (with love) pieces. Greenhouses taking up much of my time which is wonderful on a day like yesterday warm and sunny...but not today which is cooler and rainy right now. But still there is work to be done.  Just relaxing with a coffee before heading out. Also will be able to move piles of branches and sticks to the road side as well as 5 brown leaf bags  ( no more than 5 allowed) to the road once rain stops. The Village pickup on Mondays starts tomorrow and I have about 15 bags of leaves etc already raked up but will have to ration my dispensing to the road. Could always dragged them off in the car my...

Food for thought

Beth, your last post made me wonder how many other women are experiencing similar life-styles to ours.  I'm sure we aren't alone. Yesterday David lead the battle with the linen cupboard and the bathroom vanity.  The vanity still needs a good scrub down but, at least, we know what's in there. Today will include a visit to Dollarama. David has been anxious to go for a few days now but I've just been procrastinating. On a more pleasant note, Loren has submitted his retirement to his current job.  With things like holidays and sick time etc. it won't be official for a couple of months.  But then he has accepted an 18 month job with the city doing essentially the same job, but on behalf of the employer. I know he has plans beyond that but isn't giving any details.  That's probably wise as his mother is so proud of him that she'll probably "spill the beans". That's it for now.  Remember that your sister is going to be out with the car.  Who kno...
